How Permanent Partial Disability Benefits Work in Georgia

This process is meant to help the employee return to work, or provide benefits if the injury causes permanent disability or death. In Georgia, Worker’s Compensation is split into four categories: temporary partial disability, temporary total disability, permanent total disability, and permanent partial disability. Here are the benefits for Georgia’s permanent partial disability benefits.
When a worker reaches maximum medical improvement after an injury, they are entitled to permanent partial disability benefits.This means that they are eligible to receive compensation for the damage done to a particular body part. When the worker is not eligible for pain and suffering compensation, they can obtain money through a formula. The weekly income benefits are based on the type of damage done to the body.
The guidelines for benefits are very specific to the damage done to a specific body part. For example, loss of an upper extremity like an arm or elbow, or of a lower extremity like a knee or leg, both result in 225 weeks of benefit checks. Loss of fingers can range from 60 weeks to 25 weeks, depending on the digit. Loss of vision results in 150 weeks of compensation. For damages done to the whole body, the worker is entitled to 300 weeks of disability benefits. These benefits are meant as compensation for the loss of the body part, loss of the use of a body part, or impairment to the injured worker’s body as a whole.
